First i would like to talk about my trip to Brighton, although there was only one postbox which was on our list to find but we came back with a duplicate of other post-boxes which look better

We found:

  • No-Pillar-National_standard-Red (The one on our list (with Anne-Marie))

  • EIIR-Pillar-Type_c-Red (The duplicate with Anne-Marie)

  • VR-Pillar-Penfold-Red (Nice picture by the sea)

Secondly I would like to announce that our postbox system is going through a grand change. The scope of my project was driven from OpenSourceMap, however as you can see by the search engine, there a lot of gaps leading to some unique post-boxes to not appear due to its lack of data and a lot of uncertainties. For this reason, we are now using LBSG as our source of truth but still use the OSM geo-localisaiton. Took huge amount of time to map our data to LBSG, but we now have a new map and much clearer objective - see my project.

LBSG is a specialised group dedicated to postboxes (where OSM was not); their coding system is very comprehensive but not as straightforward as OSM. Every little detail is coded, giving 000s of combinations. After a lot of hard work I brought that back to the grouping level I was comfortable with, which is in-line with OSM. Long story short, that was painful.

SPECIAL MENTIONS!

  • Ivan (dunkaist) an OSM contributor pointed out an error I made about type_d and type_e potboxes. I have fully updated the website. He gave a few formatting changes we could do.

  • Anne Marie for this fun evening in Brighton.

I am thinking of becoming a member of LBSG and also an OSM contributor.

That's it, until next time!

*If you find any errors, please let me know as it helps a lot!
